Service Leader’s Message –
Hello
Jamul Chaparros!
January
got off to a bumpy start, but we are in full swing and heading towards the best
part of the 4-H year – the fairs! I
hope everyone is attending their project meetings and working on, or with, their
entries to the fairs. This is the
time to get those arts and crafts, photography, home arts, and horticulture
projects going! It’s also a good
time to practice showmanship with your animals and study to increase your
knowledge of your animals.
At
our January meeting we discussed our club’s big fundraiser for the year.
Through the generous help of Applebee’s on Jamacha Road in Rancho San Diego,
we will be hosting a Flapjack Breakfast on Saturday, March 10th from
8am to 10am. We need every club
member to sell a minimum of 4 tickets to the fundraiser.
The tickets are $10/each and the meal includes pancakes, syrup, butter,
scrambled eggs, bacon, juice, coffee, and water.
We also need 10 to 12 volunteers, age 16 and up, to help serve the
breakfast and bus the tables. Applebee’s
will provide the food and the cook staff. Volunteers
get breakfast for free! So if you
are interested in volunteering, please let me know.
If you haven’t already picked up your tickets to sell, please come see
me if I don’t see you first. We
will get 50% of the proceeds for each ticket sold, and we had to guarantee to
sell a minimum of 100 tickets. This
is the only fundraiser we are planning for this spring, so we really need
everyone’s help to make it a success!
Thank
you!
Mary
President’s
Message
Hi
Everyone!
I
was happy to see those who came to Area Judging Day! I would love to see more of
you at future events! Presentation Day is almost here and I cannot wait to see
what my fellow 4-H’ers are going to present. As the fairs and get closer I
know that it can get stressful on all of us, so take time to relax every once in
a while and remember that everything we do is to ensure learning and that we are
having a fun experience while doing so.
Rachel
Presentation Day – It’s almost

Presentation Day please do so ASAP! I
will accept entries up until 2/2/12. So
far the only entry I have from our club is Rachel’s…come on Jamul Chaparros
– this is fun, you can do it!

state website:

Giving presentations will help to build your self-confidence and
you will also earn extra Clover Bud points for participating – so start
working on your presentation now! Please
feel free to call me if you have questions.
Thanks!
Mary
Home Arts and Crafts
At our January Home Arts and Crafts meeting our club members potted
and started to trim Bonsai plants. It was a lot of fun and we learned a lot
about Bonsai’s. Sending out a
special “Thank you!” to Marshall and Tracey Murphy for leading this project!
Eastern San Diego County Jr. Fair – BBQ
and Auction, and Fair books
March 18th, it’s just around the corner – the annual
BBQ and Auction to help raise money for the Eastern San Diego County Jr. Fair.
Every year the fair holds a BBQ lunch and auction at the Lakeside
Rodeo/Jr. Fair grounds to raise money to help run the fair and to provide
scholarships for college bound 4-H and FFA youth members. The BBQ lunch is just
$8/person, and it’s a good meal! Once
again, our club will also help support the fair by hosting the dessert booth
during the BBQ and auction, it’s a tradition!
So, if you like to bake, please sign up to bring some goodies to the bake
sale booth, and if you can work the booth for an hour or two, that would also be
great!
As for the auction, it would be really great if we could get a gift
basket or other items to donate from each project group. Donations from
individuals and companies are also gladly accepted!
And yes, they are tax deductible!!!
This may seem like a lot to ask, but it all goes to help a really
great cause, and it is just 1 day of the year.
Please give the fair your support, come have lunch, get some dessert, and
check out the auction items. You
never know just what they have and they do get some really great items donated
to them!
