Community Service Leader’s Message

Hello Jamul Chaparros!

It was good to see everyone at our February meeting.  I hope you enjoyed viewing Catie Corle’s presentation of her 4-H foreign exchange adventure in Costa Rica.  There is so much 4-H has to offer and I hope our club members will take advantage of every opportunity!

A special thanks to those of you who purchased 4-H calendars and club

T-shirts!  I still have 9 calendars to sell, so if you haven’t gotten one and would like one, please let me know.  I have to turn in our extras to the county office at the end of this month, and they would really like it if I didn’t turn in any extras.  We still have club T-shirts too, I will bring them to the May meeting.  If you would like one before then, please contact me to arrange to get one.

I am currently scheduled to have some surgery at the end of this month.  If everything goes as scheduled I will not be at the unit meeting in March.  Please give your full support and cooperation to your board members and project leaders in my absence.  Nancy Grigsby and Jennifer Krempp will be picking up more copies of the Eastern San Diego County Jr. Fair entry books and forms.  They will have them at the March unit meeting.  This year the ESDCJF starts a week later than normal, so we will have our fair entry forms turn-in at our April unit meeting.  We will not have a special fair entry form turn-in meeting the last Tuesday of March as was originally scheduled at the beginning of our 4-H year.

Thank you!

Mary

President’s Message

Congrats and well done to everybody who presented at Presentation Day!!! Super Saturday is coming up and we are in need a chairperson! It is February 12th at Vista Steam Engine museum. Those who signed up for the committee are: Lindsey Smith, the Krempps, Taylor Downing, Damian Reed, and Adam Madla. If any of you are interested in chairing Super Saturday, please let me know ASAP!!!  Also a reminder that Dog learning day is February 27th at Felicita Park in Escondido. This event is open to anyone, but only enrolled dogs can be there. This is a great learning experience and I encourage everyone to go. :)

Till next time,

Haley

Area 5 Presentation Day

Congrats to everyone who participated in our Presentation Day!  You’re all winners and eligible to go to the County Presentation Day, which I have been told will be held at the same time and place as Home Arts and Design Day in March.  So please finish polishing up your presentations and really “WOW!” the judges in March!  I’m so proud of all of our presenters!  It’s not easy to get up in front of judges and your peers.  Surveys have shown that public speaking is the #1 fear of most people.  The ability to do this will help you throughout life, and the ability to do it well will help you to shine in both the classroom, and in your future careers!

Our medalist/gold seal champs are:

Demonstration – Sr. Division – Chelsea Smith

Illustrated Talk – Sr. Division – Jannettie Krempp

Illustrated Talk – Inter. Division – Jesslynn Krempp

Interpretive Reading – Sr. Division – Rachel Bradley

Prepared Speech – Sr. Division – Haley Grigsby

You may view photos taken by the Smiths at the Presentation Day:  http://www.jamul4h.org/images/ Presentation%20Day/index.html

2011 Calendars are still available - $10 each.  This is the SD 4-H County Council’s big fundraiser of the year.  They have asked our club to sell 30 calendars.  We have 27 families in the club, so if each family could purchase just one, we will meet the quota that they have set for us.  The calendars are really nice, they are full of pictures of SD County 4-H kids, the pictures were taken by your fellow 4-H’ers and they already contain many of the important dates to remember this year.  Please call Mary Bradley if you’d like to buy one.  Thank you!!!

Eastern San Diego County Jr. Fair in Lakeside

We are still collecting items for both the February ESDCJF drawing on February 28th and for the BBQ & Auction on March 20th. At the upcoming ESDCJF general meeting, our club is responsible for the drawing prizes. All donations are tax deductible.  So, if you have something you would like to donate to either event, please contact Mary.

The pre-sale tickets for the BBQ are $8/each and Mary has them if you would like to buy them.  Tickets will also be available the day of the BBQ.  Pre-sales help the fair board to determine how many meals they will need to prepare.  Don’t forget we will also be manning the bake sale booth. Please sign up to help with this at the March unit meeting.  If you are signed up in the Community Service project group, please be sure to help with this bake sale. I hope those of you who are gifted with the talent of baking will bring baked goods in support of our booth.

Last year the BBQ lunch was great and the auction was a lot of fun too!  Please give the ESDCJF your support!

Super Saturday. This event is held at the Vista Antique Tractor Museum.  It is a great county wide event.  You’ll get to meet kids from other 4-H groups in the county and see what they do in some of their project groups.  We chose to have a yummy craft booth where kids will get to do a hands-on project creating Chocolate Kiss Mice.  There will be lots of hands-on type projects to do at Super Saturday, so I hope you’ll make some time to go to and to support our club’s booth this year.  Please contact Haley Grigsby.  We still need a chairperson and helpers!!!
