President’s Message
Hey
everybody! Thanks for coming to the May Unit Meeting and participating in our
programs. We constructed our board for next year and I'm sure they will do
an excellent job! It was also great to have the County Veterinarian
come out and give such an informational presentation. Our year is coming
to a close next meeting, and we are having our annual End-of-the-Year Potluck.
This is a fun event that nobody will want to miss. So bring the family and
have a great time. Good luck to every participant in the ESDCJF as well
the San Diego County Fair. Also, my condolences go out to Gene Peterson in
this most horrible time as he grieves over the loss of his daughter. And
thanks to the group for approving our donation to the National Jewish Medical
and Research Center. Thank you and see you at the fairs!
Your President, Lucas
Van Winkle.

Thanks you to all the project leaders for getting together entries and
keeping everyone informed on dates and times.

A Tribute to
Dr. Suzie Peterson Neiswonger
On April 19 Dr. Suzie Peterson Neiswonger died at the age of 36.
Dr. Suzie was an active member of our club from age nine to nineteen. She is also the daughter of our computer project leader and
web master Gene Peterson. Gene has
been a leader and volunteer for our club for 28 years. Her mother, Dale Peterson, was also active as a leader and
volunteer for many years.
Dr. Suzie Peterson Neiswonger was involved in the rabbit, cavy, poultry,
sheep and home arts projects. She
won numerous meat pens, Best in Shows, Cavy Queen and other awards.
She received the Don Diego Scholarship from the San Diego County Fair to
pursue her education. Dr. Suzie did
achieve her lifetime goal of becoming a Doctor of veterinarian Medicine from UC
Davis in 2000. She practiced
medicine at the Rancho San Diego Animal Hospital.
Unfortunately, Dr. Suzie contacted a serious lung infection probably from
a bird while she was at veterinarian school. This infection forced her into early disability and
eventually took her life.
Dr. Suzie will always be remembered for giving her all to everything she
attempted in life. She was a great inspiration to everyone when it came to
achieving goals and doing a job well done.
Our club thanks her for the opportunity of having her as a member and an
inspiration to all of us.
Our club voted to donate a $100.00 in memory of Dr. Suzie to the National
Jewish Medical Research Center, the #1 respiratory hospital in the United States
and world-known for their research in helping those with lung diseases.
We also want to thank Dr. Suzie’s father, Gene Peterson, for sharing with us about Suzie at the May Unit Meeting.
The
above picture was taken when Doctor Suzie treated her family to a behind the
scenes tour of the San Diego Zoo last year. See more pictures from the Fun
Stuff page.

NEWSLETTER EDITOR WANTED!
Wanted for next year, newsletter editor!
The job requires some time the weekend after the unit meeting.
Ms. Wadhams sends all the information to the editor and then the info is
put into a template. It is easy and
fun to do the clip art! Ms. Lindsey
will help train the new editor. If
interested, please contact Ms. Lindsey. This
could be a great project for a high schooler!
From the County 4-H Office
My
name is Deb Hildebrand and I am interested in selling my Jerseys
to 4-H kids only. I bought a really super buck about 9 years ago from a young
lady leaving the rabbit biz and have bred some really outstanding offspring from
him. He no longer produces he's about13 years old and still my pet (not for
sale). The Jerseys are older many are very much showable, may need some TLC
training for showmanship and some brushing and detangling for show but they are
ready for a 4-Her needing a QUALITY rabbit. No pedigrees but, at $10.00-$20.00,
a real bargain. Get-em while their hoppin.
Thanks a bunny.
